Kathleen Forbes, MD, MSHM, CPE, FAAFP, is Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare's (MLH) new academic group executive vice president. In this role, Dr. Forbes will provide strategic leadership of Methodist’s academic entities: Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, Methodist University Hospital and will work in partnership with University of Tennessee Health Science Center to enhance and elevate teaching, research, clinical and operational excellence for the patients Methodist serves.
Dr. Forbes comes to Methodist most recently from Premier Health System in Dayton, Ohio, where she served as the system’s Chief Integration Officer. With nearly 20 years of experience as a physician executive with demonstrated success establishing strategic plans, health system models and metrics that drive operational, quality and service excellence, Dr. Forbes is well prepared to lead MLH’s Academic Group.
She began her career by starting her own practice from scratch in Brook Park, Ohio, and growing it for more than 10 years, including spearheading the development of a Physician Hospital Organization (PHO) and facilitating alignment with Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Forbes then transitioned to administration, serving in leadership roles of increasing responsibility and scope since 2001 at healthcare organizations including OSF Healthcare in Peoria, Illinois, UNTHealth Science Center at the University of North Texas in Fort Worth, TriHealth in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs, New York. She has also held numerous academic appointments at University of North Texas Health Science Center, Bethesda North Hospital and Samaritan Hospital both in Cincinnati and Case Western Reserve University Medical School in Cleveland, Ohio.
In every role, Dr. Forbes has demonstrated a commitment to excellence in clinical outcomes, service excellence and clinical innovation.
She is a board certified physician executive with a Medical Doctorate from the Medical College of Ohio. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and a Master of Science in Healthcare Management from the University of Texas at Dallas/Southwestern University Alliance for Medical Management Education.
In addition, Dr. Forbes is active at the national level – currently serving as a member of The National Leadership Institute where she is part of the Millennium Group and Chair of the Clinical Bullpen and the National Healthcare Physician CEO Roundtable. She is also affiliated with the American Association of Physician Leaders, the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American Academy of Family Practice, the American Medical Association, the Business and Professional Women’s Association and the American Medical Group Association.
